But to this one I will look, to him who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My word. Isaiah 66:2b
Shabbat shalom dearly beloved!
This week I was pondering what was in YHVH’s heart for all of us and it dawned on me that He is so eager to have our attention, I mean our FULL attention! So many times we receive instructions from Him but we overlook them or take them lightly! But He said that He dwells with those that are of contrite spirit and tremble at His Word!
I was talking with my daughter Adi who had been trying to lose weight for a long time and was unable to, even though she exercised much more than the average person and even very strenuous exercise! She had gone to two dieticians and could not lose weight. I am a nutritionist and health consultant by profession though I no longer practice it since being in full time Ministry for the last 22 years! But I used to have my own clinic and two very successful health food stores many years ago! People would come from far and wide to receive health counseling from me and some testified that I saved their lives through nutrition. I used to have my own newspaper column in a local magazine. In spite of all my vast knowledge in nutrition and health, my own daughter did not listen to me when I told her a long time ago that she will lose weight if she stopped using milk products and also wheat and gluten products. I repeated that instruction countless of times in the hope that she would listen, but she turned a deaf ear and kept on trying to lose weight her own way with the help of other professionals to no avail.
Finally about two weeks ago she decided to listen to me when she was terribly frustrated after her many attempts to lose weight had failed. I told her to come off milk products and gluten for two weeks (the same thing I had been saying for over a year!) After two weeks she went to her regular dietician that weighed her as she always does. Lo and behold! Surprise, surprise! She had lost nearly 2 kilograms (more than 4 pounds!) in two weeks and she could not even exercise during those two weeks since she had some back trouble! She had prayed to Elohim to show her a weight loss of about two kilograms so that she would be sure that it is not a coincidence or simply some loss of liquids. Well, Elohim did answer and after so many failed attempts to lose weight and even paying a dietician to help, the good old advice of Ima (Mom) worked! She was amazed and elated and I told her that she can send me a check at the end of the month (smile)!
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Ephesians 6:1
As I was talking about this turn of events with Rabbi, I realized that IF my children would have received many of my advices they would have suffered MUCH less and would have been blessed MUCH sooner! How frustrating it is for a mother to know what is right and yet have your grown up kids (Adi is 29 and Yuval 26!) choose to take the long and hard way instead of “listening to instruction!” Then I realized that YHVH is a Father of a multitude of children and how many are really listening to His instructions? So many, “kiss Him” and do their own thing and just like mine take the long road full of thorns instead of the easier road full of flowers. How frustrated can Abba be when He sees His kids suffering unnecessarily? And then as a Bishop, YHVH has given me many spiritual children and I think to myself, “how many are really listening to INSTRUCTION?” and how many will do “their own thing” and take my words lightly and will have to pay a price for it that was unnecessary?
What is it with us that we tend to want to go through the bad experiences, instead of simply SHMA- Listen and obey? After all the Promise is clear and the Promise is The Blessing …
Now it shall be, if you diligently obey YHVH your Elohim, being careful to do all His commandments which I command you today, YHVH your Elohim will set you high above all the nations of the earth. All these blessings will come upon you and overtake you if you obey YHVH your Elohim. Deuteronomy 28:1, 2
Or the Curse…
But it shall come about, if you do not obey YHVH your Elohim, to observe to do all His commandments and His statutes with which I charge you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you. Deuteronomy 28:15
When it comes to parental instruction, the Promise is very clear! It is a long, healthy and prosperous life! In fact it is the first Commandment with a Promise!
Honor your father and your mother, as YHVH your Elohim has commanded you, that your days may be prolonged and that it may go well with you on the land which YHVH your Elohim gives you. Deuteronomy 5:16
Next time your Parent or Pastor gives you an instruction take it seriously! Remember that very often the Holy Spirit speaks through those in authority around you that watch for your soul!
Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with grief, for this would be unprofitable for you. Hebrews 13:17
We are living in a society where obedience to parents and to spiritual shepherds is not “cool” and where individualism reigns! Many people in the Body of Yeshua are under the misconception that YHVH will only speak to them directly with no need for anyone else. In fact more times that none, our Abba speaks through the PEOPLE around you that care for you and for your wellbeing but are YOU listening or are you dismissing their words and taking them lightly? Then when things go wrong in your life and you feel caught in a vicious circle, would you go to the same Pastor of Minister that gave you the instruction (directly or through his/her preaching!) and ask for PRAYER because you are in trouble? Why do you think that to take prayer from a minister is ok but instruction is not? Very often when people come to me for prayer I detect that they need wisdom, instruction and even a rebuke much more than prayer.
It reminds me of the passage of scripture when Moses instructs the people of Israel to take only a daily portion of Manna and not to store it because it will spoil!
But they did not listen to Moses, and some left part of it until morning, and it bred worms and became foul; and Moses was angry with them. Exodus 16:20
Isn’t it time that we start trembling at His Word, whether given to us directly or through someone else that He has assigned like a Parent or a Pastor, Bishop etc.? I believe that the most important issue of this hour is to start listening, obeying and following Godly Instruction given to us directly or through the preaching of an anointed Minister!
Shma Israel Adonai Eloheinu Adonai Echad!
Hear and Obey O Israel, YHVH our Elohim is ONE. He is not divided! Father, Son and Holy Spirit are in total agreement with each other!
Hear, O Israel! YHVH our Elohim, YHVH is one! 5 You shall love YHVH your Elohim with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hands and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:4-9
May we all be blessed with a humble heart of obedience so He can entrust us with much greater things!
The reward of humility and the fear of YHVH are riches, honor and life. Proverbs 22:4
